Profile

Xu is an assistant specialist at Irvine Materials Research Institute (IMRI). He is specialized in studying physical properties of various inorganic materials using advanced scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). Prior to joining UCI, Xu was a post-doc researcher under supervision of Prof. Xiaoqing Pan at University of California, Irvine. He received his PhD degree in Material Science and Engineering from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor in 2017.

Education

PhD, the University of Michigan, 2017

Research

Xu’s current research focuses on solving fundamental and practical problems of semiconductor devices, metal, oxides, and catalytic materials using a combination of SEM, focused ion beam (FIB), aberration corrected scanning transmission electron microscopy (AC-STEM), and in situ TEM. He also provides staff assistance to the IMRI user including instrument training, teaching, and service.
