2024 Education and Outreach: Defining Paths to STEM Careers: CCAM Community Partnership
CCAM has formed a partnership with Alliance Middle School in Los Angeles to engage 8th grade students in learning about materials research and future careers.
On an annual basis, CCAM Junior Research Fellows and Faculty design and deploy education modules connecting National Science Teaching Association student learning outcomes with CCAM research.
•A series of 4 hands-on workshops on materials educational concepts are conducted in a monthly series on an annual basis.
•100 students are introduced to fundamental concepts and societal impact of materials research.
•Alliance is part of a network of college-ready public schools serving a historically underserved population. Piquing the interest of middle school students in science and engineering and introducing them to role models whom they can identify is part of our strategy to broaden participation in STEM.
