Former CCAM postdoc appointed assistant professor

Former CCAM IRG-1 postdoc, Dr. Xin Wang, has been newly appointed and started her position as an assistant professor in Metallurgical and Materials Engineering at the University of Alabama. During her postdoctoral year at UCI, she worked with CCAM faculty, Prof. Will Bowman and Prof. Julie Schoenung, focusing on materials processing and manufacturing and application of multiscale mechanical analyses and advanced electron microscopy to the study of advanced materials.

When asked about the impact of CCAM IRG-1 on her career development and path to academia, Xin said, “My experience as a postdoc at the Center for Complex and Active Materials at UCI not only allowed me to collaborate with an exceptional team of faculty members, researchers, and students on cutting-edge interdisciplinary scientific projects, but also provided me the opportunity to build a professional network and actively participate in impactful education and outreach programs. These aspects were instrumental in enhancing my readiness for a faculty role.”

Her research group at the University of Alabama is committed to developing structural materials for a broad range of transportation, aviation, space and energy applications. They do this by leveraging state-of-the-art in situ electron microscopy and mechanical methods, as well as innovative materials processing and manufacturing techniques.
