2021 Partnerships: Collaborations and Knowledge Transfer – UCI CCAM MRSEC

May 25, 2021

  • UCI MRSEC dedicates to accelerate the transformation of research discoveries and innovations through collaborations, partnerships and entrepreneurship
  • Collaborations with national laboratories, including Sandia National Laboratories, Idaho National Laboratory, and Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL), through access to the cutting-edge resources have enriched MRSEC researchers for research discoveries and innovations, e.g., with Drs. Patrick El Khoury and Niranjan Govind at PNNL to develop methods to probe chemical reactions during dissipative assembly.
  • Partnership with industries, such as H. C. Starck, Arcast, Metalwerks, and Magnetics and Materials, has leveraged our understanding of processing science in fabrication of novel materials such as complex concentrated materials (CCM), and development of new refractory CCM materials for potential high temperature applications, e.g., jet engine components
  • International collaborations with Karlsruhe Institute of Technology through: (1) Prof. Horst Hahn (IRG 1) for novel synthesis and characterization of CCMs; and (2) Prof. Ulrich Lemmer (IRG 2) for fabrication of microfluidic channels with embedded electrical connections for in situ studies of assembly and develop compact electro-optical micro fluidic devices with numerous applications
